How can Federal agencies work with us?

Forward Edge AI, Inc., is a National Science Foundation (NSF) Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) grant recipient. Since 1977, America’s Seed Fund powered by the NSF (also known as the NSF SBIR/STTR program) has helped startups develop their ideas and bring them to market. Forward Edge is led by Eric Adolphe, the first African American SBIR Tibbetts Award recipient and a National Inventors Hall of Fame Honoree.

A key advantage of the SBIR program is the ability of federal agencies to make sole-source contract awards for products, services, and research. Under Section 880 of the 2020 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) and the 2019 Small Business Administration’s (SBA’s) policy directive, the Government and the Congress clarified that “[t]o the greatest extent practicable, Federal agencies and Federal prime contractors shall issue Phase III awards relating to technology, including sole source awards…for products, services, research or any combination thereof that derives from, concludes or extends the SBIR work.

A sole-source award can be made in a matter of even weeks. Nothing could be easier. Fast, quick, and easy–that is what an SBIR sole-source award represents to the government.
